Prism. - Factory
This video was created out of pure joy in animation and music, which I often listened to while working. Based on the song title ‘Factory’, it combines imaginative technical object designs in an industrial environment with rhythmic animation – alle done manually without any plugins. The work represents an unusual combination of music and technology and a different kind of storytelling. The visualisation was mainly created with AfterEffects, the 3D elements were calculated with Unreal Engine.
Psydungeon
With Psydungeon, the story is not at the forefront, but the focus is clearly on the gameplay. Strong inspirations are ‘Binding of Isaac’ and ‘Doom’ and the Horde Mode of ‘Gears of War’. The result is a fast, hectic game that confronts players with enemies that glow in bright colours and are constantly changing. Contrary to some expectations, this first person shooter does not have an easy difficulty level. This first step into gaming – together with my current game creation partner Greg – offers simple pickups, some powerful items and requires a lot of ‘skill’ to pass. Created with Unreal Engine 4, the game would probably be categorised in the bullet hell genre nowadays.
Dreamworld
This experimental project consists of various sequences that were deliberately ‘scribbled’ with pens and edited in Photoshop and After Effects. As in the story of Plato’s cave, one individual step out of line and undergoes many metamorphoses in his search for identity outside the cave, which is the world to everyone else. Although this strange creature is merely an observer of everything that happens in this strange and fantastic world, it is constantly changing. The fact that this short film dispenses with language and uses only minimalist sounds leaves a lot of room for interpretation. This is intended to be a teaser of a larger project.
Home
I was responsivle for the storytelling of this CG animation video realised in Maya during my early student days and have since acquired a taste for storytelling. It was made at the height of the so-called migration crisis (2015) and uses numerous effects to visualise the loss of home in metaphoric images.
Untersberg
This early student animation work distills the legend of the most renowned mountain in the Alps into monochromatic medieval heroic imagery. The freestanding Untersberg massif, located between Salzburg and Berchtesgaden, is regarded by locals as a mountain of wonders, with its caves seen as a secret world from the past, filled with fairies, dwarves, and great treasures hidden within. One of history’s greatest rulers, Emperor Charlemagne, takes the lead role in this myth. Despite being buried in Aachen, legend has it that he awaits his resurrection in the Untersberg. He is said to sit at a marble table with a group of noblemen, his long beard coiled around the table. Every 100 years, he sends out a squire to count the ravens flying around. If the squire counts exactly 24 ravens, no more and no less, the emperor will rise to begin mankind’s final battle. If the count is not 24, the emperor returns to his slumber for another century. In the video, he opens his eyes at the end. (Realized with Maya)
DNA Hotel
A futuristic DNA hotel consisting of two double helices is being built around a central axis, with interchangeable floors and movable, almost transparent residential units. It is completed by the king suite in the shape of a sphere. Realised with Maya, Photoshop for textures. One of my first works.
